It’s National Squirrel Appreciation Day! No, we’re not kidding. In its 13th year, this day was founded by wildlife rehabilitator Christy Hargrove from Asheville, North Carolina who is affiliated with the Western North Carolina Nature Center. This day was selected because it falls in mid-winter and it’s a time where food is scarce for squirrels. She recommends that supporters put out a little extra treat for these fluffy-tailed rodents to help sustain them when their food supplies may be running low.

Here are some squirrel facts that you may be unaware of:

1. They have four continuously growing front teeth. Average growth rate is around six inches annually.

2. A group of fish is called a school, but a group of squirrels are referred to as a scurry or dray.

3. Squirrels use their fluffy tails for balancing, as well as communication by twitching and gesturing with them. If they should fall their tails serve as cushions to soften the blow.

4. Mother squirrels have been known to cannibalize their young when food shortages occur. Even more reason to pitch in and leave some nibble for them.

So, the big question here is how can Vuze users celebrate and enjoy National Squirrel Day? Easy. You can catch up on some reading with a curated collection of tales (no pun intended) that feature the squirrel. All the book torrents shared below are believe to be in the public domain.
