Let’s give it up for alternative country-folk band Blitzen Trapper and their amazing talent for creating an eclectic sound that is must have and listen for anyone with a penchant for original music. This Portland, Oregon quintet has been around for 14 years and amassed not only a huge fan base and following, but has also received critical acclaim from well-known music media outlets, such as Spin Magazine, Pitchfork Media and The Nerve.
Blitzen Trapper has a roots-rock sound influenced by banjo, harmonica and walking bass lines. Their sound is similar to other bands in the indie folk genre like Trampled By Turtles or Deer Tick, however, that’s where the comparisons stop. Blitzen Trapper covers everything from plaintive ballads to stripped-down tracks that have a familiar rawness to them that keeps you listening and wanting more.
Last year the band released it’s seventh album appropriately titled VII. They’re providing one of the tracks, Coming Home, to listeners as a free music download. According to Blitzen Trapper’s lead vocalist, Eric Earley,”With this track we wanted to lay down some good old-fashioned country funk, with horns and banjos side by side,” shares Earley. “It recalls the swampy truck stop sounds of Jim Ford or Mac Davis, telling ourselves that home is just around the bend.”
Listen and get a free music download of Coming Home and catch one of their recent performances in March 2014 from The Launchpad in Alburquerque, New Mexico.
Please note that even though Blitzen Trapper is making downloadable music available for free it might not be ok for you to re-distribute that music without their permission.
