Use Creative Commons The List app for Android to discover photos in public domain.

For anyone who’s ever worked on a digital project, blog or presentation there’s a good chance that you’ve looked for non-infringing, open licensed images to incorporate into your final version. Non-infringing, royalty-free images are available through all sorts of legitimate sources, though for the neophyte knowing where to look might not always initially be clear, and then there is the challenge of trying to match the appropriate image to your theme.

Copyrighted stock-photos where the rights-holders are willing to license their images for commercial uses might seem a bit pricey to some, though the average price tag starts at what we think is a reasonable $115 each (based on size) for most images for commercial uses. (Think about how much it would likely cost to hire a professional photographer to take a custom photo for you.)

The good news is that the folks over at Creative Commons have been working hard on making it easier to discover open license photos and save some greenback along the way. A new Android app dubbed The List is available in public beta and it’s hoping to make it easier to connect people to images for their content.

The List works like an image aggregator that pulls lists of objects, locations an people together so that you can find and filter exactly what you need. You can even publish your own open license images too!

The List is only available for Android users at this time. You can visit Creative Commons to learn more about the public beta version and also head over to Github to get the source code and follow development of the project.
