Azureus is far from dead. It is Reborn!
Since we released our 3.1 version yesterday, we’ve noticed a few articles on the internet saying “Azureus is dead”. Nothing could be further from the truth: Azureus is very much alive — in fact, it is reborn, but with a new name Vuze.
We may have changed the name of our application from Azureus to Vuze, but the name really is the only thing we have left behind (the frog stays!).
All the functionality from Azureus is present in Vuze. That alone makes Vuze the bittorrent client that people love.
In fact, with this new release, we’ve added features that make it even easier and faster to find, download, play and share torrents. The new meta-search lets you search torrent sites, and “Friends” lets users securely and quickly share any torrent. We designed both of these features in the same spirit that we designed the original Azureus: with the desire to create the most efficient way for users to find and download torrents.
With all of that said, we know that some of our users prefer to use the classic Azureus UI. You can still do that via the Advanced tab.
Finally and maybe most importantly, the spirit of Azureus is still here. All the people who built Azureus, including the open source community, are part of the team that developed this release and continues to focus on building a truly innovative all-in-one bittorrent client that lets you find, play and share great content.
So, we hope you’ll give Vuze 3.1 a try and let us know what you think.
